Quick guide to RC helicopters

RC helicopters are no longer considered as kids toys. They have matured into a full fledged hobby. Though most people set off with very simple models, they graduate to more complicated ones soon enough. RC helicopters are mostly non-repairable, so it is better to start out with a cheap model and progress to more expensive ones, when you have mastered the technique of flying one.

Constructing a remote controlled helicopter is not easy. But if you have the correct savoir faire, and the equipments, it is quite an enjoyable task. Firstly, one has to decide on the model and purchase the appropriate kit. The best way to go about doing this is by asking fellow hobby lovers or by reading reviews from the internet. Most information is easily available. Once the choice has been made, you will need to purchase the necessary parts and accessories.

These would include an engine, to drive the remote control helicopter, servos, that are meant to control the motorized parts, a gyro, which controls the tail rotor, a radio and receivers to send out the signals to fly, once the helicopter is set up. But before you begin the assembly, ensure that all the tools are within hand’s reach. You would need a set of screw drivers, nut drivers and pliers. Keep a pitch gauge and fuel filter and some extra nuts and bolts, in case one goes missing from your kit.

Once the RC Trucks is built, you can get ready to set it up for flying. Ensure that the servos move in the correct direction and are centered by turning the radio on and plugging the receiver. Level the swash plate and the washout block. Set the pitch to read zero when motor is at center stick throttle. Now that you are all set to fly, here’s wishing you happy flying and safe landing.
